PPM Yameen’s faction: Another party interested in an alliance

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s faction of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has announced another political party operating in Maldives, other than Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), has expressed interest in forming an alliance with the party.

In answer to a question posed by “Sun” after the PPM council meeting held in Dharubaaruge on Monday night, Secretary-General appointed by President Yameen’s faction, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel said that other political parties had been expressing interest in forming an alliance with them.

When pressed for the name of the party, Khaleel said that it would be announced “when the time comes”.

“Some parties have expressed interest in working with us,” said Khaleel, adding that a committee would be set up to deal with that.

On a previous occasion, Khaleel said that PPM had been in deep sleep before, but that there was growing interest now that President Yameen was at the helm.

He also announced plans for a tour of the atolls, and anniversary celebrations.

At the moment, ruling party PPM is aligned with MDA, with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Adhaalath Party (AP) and Jumhoory Party (JP) aligned together forming the opposition.

This leaves out Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) as the sole political party which has not yet taken a side.
