VC’s rector receives honorary doctorate

Villa College’s rector, Dr. Ahmed Anwar has been conferred an honorary doctorate degree by Open University of Malaysia (OUM).

Dr. Anwar was conferred the honorary doctorate in acknowledgement of his contribution to the field of education.

He was conferred the honorary doctorate during the 19th OUM Convocation held this Monday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dr. Anwar obtained his primary teaching training certificate in Missouri, India and completed his higher education in Scotland and England.

He got his PhD from University of Bristol, England in 2008.

Dr. Anwar, who played a key role in founding Villa College was appointed the rector in 2007, after having served the public education sector of the country for 35 years.

Dr. Anwar had served as head of Maldives Qualification Authority (then Maldives Accreditation Board) and played a key role in establishing the first regulatory framework for education in Maldives.

In addition to providing his services in the field of education, Dr. Anwar also worked for State Trading organization (STO), worked as chief of Sh. Atoll, and represented F. Atoll in People’s Majlis.

He was honored with the National Award for his services to the field of education by Maldivian government in 2011.
