Eva, Ibu, Faisal re-registered in respective parties

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) lawmakers – Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla and Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu), and Jumhoory Party lawmaker – Kaashidhoo MP Faisal Naseem have all been re-registered to their respective political parties.

Elections Commission (EC) member, Ahmed Akram said that lawmakers omitted from party membership registries have all been re-registered after they submitted fingerprinted forms.

Akram said that Eva, Ibu and Faisal had been re-registered – and the fact informed to People’s Majlis.

Political Parties Act has been amended so that only forms with fingerprints are accepted when considering party membership. The move had required everyone who submitted membership forms prior to the amendment to re-submit membership forms along with their fingerprints.

The change knocked down MDP as the largest political party in Maldives, its place taken by ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
