Former Foreign Minister, Dunya Maumoon has said that she hopes that the Maldives would remain a member of the United Nations (UN), an organization that has been instrumental in the development of the Maldives, and strengthen the judiciary and the democracy of the country.
In relation to the commemoration of the the United Nations Day celebrating 71 years of UN today, the former Minister told Sun Media that the Maldives has been a member for 51 beneficial years with the UN.
The first Foreign Minister of the Yameen President, Dunya, said that the UN was founded on and had been working on fundamental bases and hope that it becomes an even stronger organization.
Dunya has worked at the Malé Office of the UN before her political career and last year, she made an address at the UN Heyerdahl Assembly as the Foreign Minster of the Maldives.
She said that the UN has been criticizing the Maldives then as well but discussions were held to explain the situations.
Daughter of the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom resigned from her position as the Foreign Minister on 5 July 2016 following a dispute within the government regarding capital punishment.
