Maldives calls for renewed convention against terrorism

Maldives Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ahmed Sareer has called for a renewed convention against terrorism.

Sareer made this statement while speaking at the General Assembly session to renew the ‘2006 United Nations Global Counter-terrorism Strategy’ in New York last Friday.

Sareer said that Maldives had joined 12 counter-terrorism conventions, which shows its commitment to combating terrorism.

He said that the Maldivian government had placed the prevention of violence at the forefront of its agenda.

He also said that to prevent terrorism, the government seeks to establish partnerships for intelligence information, aims to strengthen democratic institutions, and educate the public on terrorism.
