The party with most members by the end of the year will be PPM: Gayoom

Interim President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that by the end of the year, the party in the Maldives with most number of members will be PPM.

Speaking at a ceremony at Ghiyasuddeen School following a dinner by PPM Addu Atoll members to all PPM members, Gayoom said that the number of PPM members will soon reach 30,000, and that efforts are underway to promote PPM in Addu.

“There are people in Addu who want to join PPM. We have to go there and provide them the application forms. Those visits will be planned and carried out in the future. We hope that the number of PPM members will reach 30,000 as a result of these efforts, and that PPM will become the biggest party in Maldives by the end of the year,” Gayoom said.

Gayoom will join a special visit by PPM to Addu Atoll next week.

“The purpose is to expand activities in Addu, because it is the second most populous Atoll after Male’, and encourage more Addu citizens to join PPM,” Gayoom said.

As usual, Gayoom reiterated that PPM will win the 2013 presidential election.

PPM Interim Vice President Abdul Raheem Abdullah refuted claims that some PPM Parliamentary Group Members are planning to join another party, and said that PPM will hold majority in the Parliament before the end of the current sitting.

He also said that several Members of Parliament will join PPM during the function in Addu.

The function in Ghiyasuddeen School was attended by several people from Addu Atoll, senior officials of PPM, and members of the public.
