MP proposes making 50 percent of resort management local

An amendment has been proposed to Tourism Act to make it compulsory for 50 percent of management of any resort operating in Maldives to comprise of locals.

Kaashidhoo MP Faisal Naseem proposed making an addition to Article 34 of Tourism Act.

Faisal proposed making 50 percent local management compulsory for any tourist resort or hotel operating in Maldives within five years its opened.

The lawmaker said that tourism was the backbone of the economy of the country, and wanted to ensure Maldivians get the maximum benefit out of it.
