The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has today decided to change the official code for Maldivian legal tender from MRF to MVR.
Divehi Rufiyaa will henceforth be coded as MVR, after the decision made today by the Directors’ Board of the MMA.
The change has come with the 31st anniversary of the Maldives central bank. An announcement from MMA tonight said that the official code for Rufiyaa was changed as MVR to comply with the common code for the Maldivian currency at international level. The Maldivian currency is known at international level as MVR.
“MVR has been used as code for Divehi Rufiyaa by Central Banks, and banks operating in the country as well as at abroad”, read the Statement of MMA.
The official name for Maldivian Rufiyaa in English would be ‘Maldivian Rufiyaa’ and ‘Maldivian Laari’.
