Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has made the decision to remove distribution boxes from the pavements in Male’.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu spoke to press this Monday and said that the distribution boxes being located on pavements were taking up space for pedestrians to walk on.
“It’s an inconvenience to many, having these distribution boxes on one side of narrow pavements. They have to walk on the road because of lack of space on the pavement. But they are further inconvenienced because vehicles are parked on the side of the road,” said Muizzu.
He said that discussions had been held with relevant authorities, and that distribution boxes would be removed from the pavements soon.
“The first thing will be to remove the distribution boxes on the streets. They will be removed and installed inside walls or in a place where it will not inconvenience people,” said Muizzu.
He said that stakeholders such as Dhiraagu and Stelco would be providing their full corporation for the effort.
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has taken up a project to repair the streets of Male’ by resurfacing the roads, making the drains larger and reburying cables closer to the surface.
