PPM Parliamentary Group attempt reconciliation between Maumoon, Yameen

Parliamentary Group of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has made the decision to meet with both the Leader of PPM, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to reconcile differences between them.

Deputy Leader of PPM Parliamentary Group, Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed spoke to “Sun” and said that the decision was made this Sunday.

“We haven’t yet decided on a date. A date will be decided when… President Yameen is leaving on a visit to Fuvahmulah tomorrow. So we will decide on a date when President Yameen returns back to Male’. We haven’t yet officially reached out to President Yameen either,” said Riyaz Rasheed.

A senior official of PPM office said that he had heard of the decision, but that it hadn’t yet been officially informed to the party office.

The decision of PPM Parliamentary Group comes after Maumoon demanded an apology from PPM council members who walked out on the meeting held on July 19.

He said that no council meeting will be held unless the members who “rebelled” against him apologized.
