Maldivian international airlines – Mega Maldives – currently facing major financial challenges – has started chartered flight operations in India for the first time.
Mega Maldives reported that it carried 600 passengers of two of its flights from Mumbai, India to Darussalam, Tanzania on September 30 and October 1.
The two flights are schedules to return to Mumbai with the passengers on October 14 and October 15.
Mega Maldives noted that it was the chartered operation they had set up within the shortest amount of time – having made all the arrangements and obtained all the permits within a matter of seven days.
The airline, which carries the most number of Chinese passengers to and from Maldives, is facing financial difficulties due to fall in the Chinese market and mounting expenses.
The company has cut the number of aircrafts from its fleet and has decided to lay off 114 workers.
It recently bought a Boing 737 aircraft, adding it to its fleet of two Boing 767 aircrafts.
