President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to the people of Maldives to learn from the historic journey of Prophet Mohamed and strengthen bonds of unity and fraternity within the Maldivian community.
President Yameen made the appeal in his address to the nation on occasion of the Islamic New Year 1438 on Saturday night.
Yameen said that the Islamic New Year symbolized the historic journey of the Prophet from his homeland Mecca to Medina. And urged the people of Maldives to learn from the virtues of unity, solidarity, sacrifice and fraternity it teaches.
“It is therefore very important to learn from the journey, strengthen the bonds of unity that exists among us, and provide full cooperation to the government’s efforts to provide development and convenience to the people,” said Yameen.
He said that the start of an Islamic new year was the most opportune time to resolve to strengthen bonds of unity and fraternity.
Yameen extended greetings and good wishes to the people of Maldives, leaders of the Islamic world and heads of other Islamic communities.
