50,000 copies of “Mus’haf Maldif” ready, President receives first copy

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has said that 50,000 books have been printed under the government project to provide every Maldivian with a copy of the Holy Quran, or a “Mus’haf”.

The government began the project “Mus’haf Maldif”, (A Mus’haf to every Maldivian) under the supervision of the former Islamic Minister, Mohamed Shaheem.

The Mus’haf Maldif Project was carried out with the assistance from Government companies, NGOs, and Maldivian individuals and the Quran Care Society of Bahrain.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad presented the first edition of Quran published under the Mus’haf Maldif Project, to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom today at a special ceremony at the President’s Office.

Islamic Ministry said that the cover and page layouts of the Mus’haf Maldif are based on the stone carvings of the Friday Mosque in Malé City and the book would be brought to the Maldives soon.

An official from the Ministry said that once the first batch of books arrives, a decision would be made on the distribution.

A decision was first made to carry out the “Mus’haf Maldif” project was made by the Ministry last year on 26 July. The Ministry did not say as to why the project took so long.

While the printing of the first 100,000 is underway in Bahrain, the Islamic Ministry said that the printing cost per book is MVR 50.
