Police have released three members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Council who were arrested from a Maldives United Opposition protest.
The three people – former Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Esa, Mohamed Waheed and Maldivian national football team and Maziya SC midfielder As’ad Ali were arrested under court order by police on September 8.
Police media official confirmed the release to “Sun” this Thursday.
The three opposition activists kept under detention for 14 days.
Police have not been specific about why they were arrested, only saying that it was “for an ongoing investigation”.
