Pakistani man, Mohamed Asif has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fine of MVR 100,000 by Criminal Court of Maldives after he was found guilty of smuggling in narcotics into the country.
Mohamed Asif arrived in Maldives on a Sri Lankan Airlines flight on February 6.
He had confessed to traveling to Maldives after swallowing 35 bullets of diamorphine – weighing 286.2336 grams.
He was sentenced on last Sunday, September 18, under Maldivian anti-drug trafficking laws.
Mohamed Asif is required to pay the MVR 100,000 in fine to the State within the next 30 days.
