Alhan: President Nasheed was the first to destroy the Constitution

Former Vice President of MDP, Alham Fahmy has said that the first person to destroy the Maldivian Constitution ratified in 2008 was the former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking on TVM’s “Raajje Miadhu” (Maldives Today) Program tonight, Alhan said that in 2011, security forces arrested then Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Judge Abdulla Mohamed against the Constitution.

Noting that the Supreme Court ordered the release of Judge Abdulla Mohamed the night of his arrest and the order was ignored; Alhan said that it is the ruling party or the President that has the highest responsibility of implanting the rulings of the Supreme Court.

Alhan said that even if the court ruling is not the best, it must be followed and implemented.

“Can’t do anything bigger than violating the system of the country, for the sake of the country’s democracy, President Nasheed made a mistake. Alhan said.

Openly criticizing MDP, the party’s former Vice President, Alhan said that President Nasheed has “hijacked” MDP and the ruling PPM along with Adhaalath Party has also been “hijacked”.

He said that among the political parties, democracy is something bitter and today, democracy is what the powerful person wants.

“Today, the (political) parties has to amend. (We have to) go the next step in democracy. We haven’t been able to get free of where we started.” Alhan Fahmy said.
