National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) has said that six of the 21 people who were provided temporary accommodation by the State after the fire in G. Esbarige were still under State care.
The 14 other people returned to their homes after the damage from the fire was repaired.
Director of NDMC, Hisaan Hassan spoke to “Sun” this Sunday and said that the six people being provided temporary accommodation belonged to two families who lived in the two apartments which suffered the worst damage in the fire.
Hisaan said that the two families can only return to their homes after major repair work, and that it was uncertain how long it would take.
NDMC, in addition to arranging accommodation, is also providing them with basic necessities such as food.
The fire, which originated from G. Esbarige, in what is believed to be a result of an electrical short, had spread to neighboring houses G. Aseynaa and G. Memory Villa before it was put out.
The incident took place on September 7.
