Police have reported a low crime rate during the Eid al-Adha holiday last week, with no major crimes reported.
Police information officer Ismail Ali spoke to “Sun” this Sunday and said that Maldives experienced a relatively peaceful, long Eid al-Adha holiday this year, with no major crime such as robberies, street fights, damage to property, or deliberate physical injury on a person reported anywhere in the country.
“There were few crimes reported as people celebrated Eid in Male’ and the atolls, there were especially no major crimes. The Eid went very peacefully and joyfully,” said Ismail.
The police said that the Eid holiday this year provided a stark contrast to previous Eid holidays which saw tragic marine accidents and drownings.
Only road accidents were experienced last week, said Ismail.
He said that policemen had patrolled the streets round the clock in order to ensure safety and security during the Eid.
