Police have started investigation into complaint filed by reporter for Channel 13, Bahaaullah Ibrahim, that he was physical assaulted by two individuals – one of them a prison officer.
Bahaaullah filed the complaint last Thursday, and information officer for police, Ismail Ali has confirmed that the case was now under investigation by police.
The reporter spoke to “Sun” and said that he was physically assaulted by two individuals at the Gemanafushi football stadium on Thursday evening – one of them a prison officer and the other – an employee of Fuel Supply Maldives.
Bahaaullah said that both the men belonged to Gemanafushi.
He said that there had been disputes between the two teams facing each other during the football match which took place that evening, which later ended peacefully. And that the two individuals, who were not members of the football teams, attacked him after the match.
Bahaaullah said that about 20 people witnessed seeing him being assaulted, among them the Dhangethi MP Ilhaam Ahmed and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ali Adil.
He said that he had given his statement to the police on Friday night.
“I will not forgive the two individuals. The court will decide now. I hope to get justice within the State procedure,” said Bahaaullah.
He said that the two men had threatened him not to write articles as he pleased before physically assaulting him.
He suffered no major injury.
