Woman and Prison Officer arrested in suspicion of smuggling drugs into Prison

A woman and a Prison Officer of the Maldives Correctional Service has been arrested in suspicion of smuggling drugs into Maafushi Prison.

In a collaborated operation with the Maafushi Police Station, Police arrested a male Prison Officer and a woman.

Police said that they arrested a 22-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man was arrested with a large quantity of drugs attempted to be smuggled into Maafushi Prison.

The arrest was made on 9 September 2016.

During the search after their arrest, Police said that they found two empty film canisters and plastic packet believed to contain drugs in the woman’s bag.

Maafushi Police Station is investigating the case further.
