Winners have been awarded in the competition held from among students of Maldives National University to design canopies for the Central Park.
The competition is a joint initiative by MNU and Housing Development Corporation.
35 students studying architecture and civil engineering from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of MNU participated in the competition, and were divided into six groups which proposed one design each.
The best three designs were selected and awarded in a ceremony held at MNU on Tuesday night, along with a pizza party for this year’s A’ Level graduates.
The First Place winner, the group “Abadhahfehi” (Evergreen) was given a cash prize of MVR 10,000.
Their design will be used in the Central Park in Hulhumale’.
Director of Finance of HDC, Ali Shareef spoke to “Sun” and said that they hoped to engage the community and take their contributions into consideration with the competition.
He noted that students produced some very good designs in the competition.
“We are looking to engage the community as much as possible and encourage their contribution especially in development projects,” said Shareef.
He said that the winning design would be further developed and installed in the Central Park soon.
The students produced the designs by developing and exchanging concepts, all housed in one hall for three days.
