Man threatens officer, gets 6 months in prison

Feydhoo Magistrate Court of Addu City has sentenced a 28-year-old man to six months in prison after he was found guilty of issuing a death threat against a police officer.

The man - Ahmed Areesh from Raihkelaage in S. Feydhoo – was sentenced in an incident which took place on June 18, 2014.

Police reported that Areesh had been taken to Addu City Police Custodial in relation to an ongoing investigation by Gan Police Station when an argument broke out between him and a police officer, ending in Areesh threatening to kill the police officer.

Areesh was found guilty by the court despite claims of innocence, based on witness testimony, and sentenced to six months in prison.
