Ministry of Islamic Affairs has contracted companies to build mosques in three Maldivian islands, projects funded through free financial aid by Saudi Arabian government.
Two companies have been contracted to build mosques in the three islands – Sh. Feevah, N. Lhohi and N. Maalhendhoo.
The contracts were officially signed in a ceremony held at Ministry of Islamic Affairs this Monday.
The combined cost of building all three mosques amounts to MVR 9.7 million.
The 504-people mosque in Feevah will cost approximately MVR 1.4 million and has to be completed within two months, while the 304-people mosque in Lhohi will cost approximately MVR 4 million.
Both projects have been contracted to Vimlla Construction.
Meanwhile, the mosque in Maalhendhoo has been contracted to Enoka Private Limited and is expected to cost MVR 4.3 million.
Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Ziyad Bagir has said that the projects had already been contracted to companies back in 2014, but that work had been on hold for “various reasons”.
