“Stealing Paradise”, an Al-Jazeera documentary on alleged corruption within the current Maldivian government, is being produced by former Minivan News (re-named Maldives Independent) editor Will Jordan.
A British citizen, Jordan worked for the Maldivian media center in 2006.
He now works for the award-winning Investigative Unit of Al-Jazeera as an Executive Producer.
“Sun” has been informed that Jordan, along with a number of other Al-Jazeera reporters had travelled to Maldives gather information and video footage for the documentary.
Jordan’s involvement in the documentary has been confirmed by Maldives Independent.
Editor of Maldives Independent, Zaheena Rasheed spoke to “Sun” on Wednesday, and said that the media agency often got calls from international media centers – including Al-Jazeera for assistance in articles they write about Maldives. And that the media center provided them with the assistance they needed.
The documentary, set to be released later this month, contains revelations about the former Vice President and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, who is currently imprisoned.
“Sun” has been informed that Al-Jazeera tried to visit Adeeb for an interview.
Al-Jazeera also requested comment from the Maldivian Government, sending an email to President’s Office.
The government said that the questions were regarding previously made allegations, and promised that they would respond to the questions.
The government did not specify the questions asked.
