Customs head dons uniform for first time

A head of Customs Service has donned the official uniform for the first time in its 126-year existence.

Commissioner of Customs, Ibrahim Shareef and Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Ismail Abdulla attended the office at the start of this week wearing the uniform.

Customs regulation dictates that only their officers need to wear their uniform for work.

Senior Superintendent of Customs, Ahmed Niyaz spoke to “Sun” this Tuesday and said that senior officials of Customs will hereafter don their uniforms to office every Sunday, and during events they attend to represent the organization.

“They will wear the uniform, hereafter, when they attend ceremonies such as Independence Day celebrations or events to represent Customs,” said Niyaz.
