President’s Office: Unaware of any Al-Jazeera report on Maldivian government corruption

President’s Office has denied having any knowledge of an alleged Al-Jazeera report regarding corruption within the Maldivian government.

An official from President’s Office spoke to “Sun” on Sunday and said that President’s Office had no knowledge Al-Jazeera made a report on corruption by Maldivian government, and said the international media network had not contacted or approached the President’s Office for a comment regarding such a claim.

“They made no approach for an interview,” said the official.

The official, however, said that the President’s Office was aware some Al-Jazeera reporters visited the country, adding that they had even made some arrangements requested by the reporters.

He said that the President’s Office was however not aware that Al-Jazeera prepared a report on government corruption.

“We guided them towards places where they would be permitted,” said the official.

Reports are circulating on social media regarding a special report by Al-Jazeera regarding major corruption events in the country.

It has been reported that the special report titled “Stealing Paradise” will be released by the media network at the end of August.
