Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) have said that the selling of baby food without a Dhivehi label would be illegal after 16 January 2017.
A statement issued by the MFDA today said that under the regulation for import, production and trade of baby food used as replacement for breastfeeding, the import of unregistered products have been banned since January 2016 and such are products are being inspected at the port of entry since 5 January 2016.
The statement said that the deadline for clearing the stock of the unregistered products currently in the country is 16 January 2017.
And so under the regulation, it is illegal to sell or put on display for sale such products without registration and without a Dhivehi label 16 January. And if businesses are unsure that the current stock can be cleared before the deadline, the MFDA has requested to share the information of the products with them before 30 September 2016.
