Singaporean company hired to haul ship off Fuvahmulah reef

A Singaporean salvage company has been hired to haul the Vietnamese cargo ship MV NGOC Sun, which has lying on the reef towards west of Gn. Fuvahmulah, after crashing into it last Saturday.

The ship crashed into the reef while carrying material needed for the island’s water and sewerage system project.

There were 20 people onboard the ship when it crashed.

Managing Director of Ocean Logistics and Shipping, Mohamed Waheed spoke to “Sun” on Wednesday and said that they had hired a Singaporean company to haul the ship off the reef.

“We have hired a Singaporean salvage company and are working on hauling the ship. Officials from the company have now gone to Fuvahmulah. We are working on getting it done as soon as possible,” said Waheed.

Waheed said that Transport Authorities had given them a 15-day period to get it done, starting from August 16.
