Speaker of People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed has been chosen as the amir al-hajj by the government, and will be guiding the 2,000 Maldivians who will travel to Saudi Arabia this year to perform the sacred hajj pilgrimage.
The announcement was made by the President’s Office on Tuesday.
President’s Office announced that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had chosen Speaker Maseeh to be the amir al-hajj this year, adding that he will be joined on the pilgrimage by his wife.
Maldivian hajj pilgrims have already started travelling to Saudi Arabia, with 193 pilgrims making the trip on Monday night.
