Lucas files for appeal after remand extension

Social media activist Shammoon Jaleel AKA Lucas Jaleel has appealed the extension to his remand period with the High Court.

Lucas was arrested and is under investigation for allegedly instigating dissent between the country’s security forces and the people of the country.

Lucas’s defense attorney confirmed that he filed for appeal on Monday.

Arrested on July 29 and remanded to 15-days in jail, his remand was extended to another 15 days last Sunday.

Police reported that Lucas, along with a group of other individuals were under investigation for creating hatred within the hearts of civilians towards security forces, and creating dissent within society.
