Cargo boat capsizes in Male’

A cargo boat, attempting to harbor through the new channel cut to south of Male’ has capsized.

Sun reporter on site said that the boat was completely submerged under water along with the fruits, vegetables and frozen chicken it was carrying.

“Police and locals are fishing out the cargo. It was carrying a lot of apples,” said the reporter on site.

Police reported that the boat capsized after it hit the reef as it attempted to harbor.

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure stated that the new harbor wasn’t yet open to public, noting that they had issued an announcement banning commercial boats from using the harbor.

Only STO oil carriers and boats used by Waste Management Center are allowed to use the harbor.
