Father appeals case after daughter loses hearing from doctored injection

Father of the girl who lost her hearing allegedly as a result of an injection used on her by Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in G. DH. Thinadhoo has appealed the case with Supreme Court, after High Court ruled that there was no ground for over MVR 7 million demanded by the father in compensation.

A hearing in the case has been scheduled for 1 pm next Thursday at Supreme Court.

The alleged negligence took place in July, 2007, when the girl was three years old.

The father of the girl lost the case at both Civil Court and High Court, with High Court ruling that though the hearing loss had been a result of the injection, there was no grounds to determine that it was a result of negligence on the part of hospital officials.

The Court said that witness testimony proved the injection had been doctored in accordance with official hospital procedure.
