Elderly man from V. Felidhoo, reported missing at 10 am on Wednesday remains missing, but his spectacles have been recovered from the ocean.
The elderly man missing has been identified by Felidhoo Council as Ahmed Hassan, 76 (Lainoofarumaage, V. Felidhoo).
President of Felidhoo Council, Hassan Ali spoke to “Sun” on Thursday and said that it looked
most likely the man was lost at sea.
He said that the man’s spectacles had been recovered from the ocean.
“We don’t know what happened. It looks like he went to the ocean last. His sandals were found near the water. We dived into the water in that area and recovered his spectacles. So it’s highly likely he’s lost at sea,” said Hassan.
Hassan said that police, military and officials from diving schools have joined the search and rescue effort, but have not been able to find the man yet.
Hassan said that the elderly man was not that sickly, and went swimming in the ocean on a regular basis.
He said that the man may have gone near the water Wednesday morning to urinate.
Ahmed is the father of seven, and grandfather and great-grand father of numerous others.
