Police request Dhiraagu not to old Road Race in Malé City

Maldives Police Service has made a request at the telecom giant Dhiraagu to hold their annual Dhiraagu Road Race outside of Malé City, in Hulhumalé or somewhere else.

The Police made the request at the meeting with the senior officials of Dhiraagu to discuss the security measures at the race with the Central Operations Command of the Police.

At the meeting, Police said that they would be providing the security to social events such as the Road Race even if it is held outside the capital.

Dhiraagu has yet to decide the date for this year’s event.

Police said that the streets of Malé are very crowded and closing roads affect the traffic flow of the city causing difficulty to a lot of people and said that discussions are underway with relevant authorities to minimize it.

The Police said that they have been requesting all relevant parties to plan events so that they do not hinder the evening foot traffic in the city on weekends and other holidays.

With the Police requesting the largest annual event of Dhiraagu to be held outside the capital, Police have previously said that mass gatherings and political events would not be allowed to be held in Malé City and has stopped such events.
