President of the Laamu Gan Island Council, Mohamed Shiyam has said that land will be given from the island with the permission of the government.
After the Local Government Authority (LGA) advised to put a halt the project to give state lands from the island without the permission of the Housing Ministry, the Gan Council initially said that land would be given even without the permission of the government. But now, the President of L. Gan Council, Shiyam said that it will be done with the government’s permission.
Talking to Sun Media today, Shiyam said that a decision has been made to hold talks with the government to give land from the island. He said that they are receiving support from the government on the issue and that the LGA and the Housing Ministry are in talks to gain permission to give land.
“Government is very positive. So that (giving land) will be done with government’s permission.” President of the Laamu Gan Island Council, Mohamed Shiyam.
Shiyam said that they would start giving land as soon as the government authorizes it. The hope is to start before the end of the year.
After the Gan Island Council announced that they would be giving land, a number of people have applied to acquire land from the island. But the government asked the Council to halt the project and there were concerns raised by the public.
