Employment Tribunal has ordered the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to compensated one of the two of their employees that were dismissed with an accusation of stealing jet fuel from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) with MVR 60,400 within 15 days.
The Refueller Operator Mohamed Abdulla and the Senior Fuel Farm Officer, Adam Zameel were arrested in November following a theft 19,000 liters of jet fuel from the fuel bowser of the Fuel Service Section on the night of 4 September 2015.
The Employment Tribunal made the final ruling of their case today.
The Tribunal said that both employees were dismissed before the investigation of the implicated crime was completed.
MACL dismissed the two employees on 1 December 2015.
Verdict of the Tribunal said that MACL failed to provide evidence to prove that Refueller Operator Mohamed Abdulla was actively involved in the theft without a reasonable doubt.
And although the Tribunal has deemed that he was dismissed without enough evidence, with trust of employment gone, the Tribunal does not see it in the best interest of the parties involved to re-assign him to his employment position.
Hence, as his salary and benefits from the date of dismissal to today, MACL was ordered to pay MVR 60,405.50 within 15 days.
The Tribunal said that the MACL proved with evidence that the second man implicated in the crime was involved in the theft. But since he was dismissed without the proceedings of the regulations, MACL was ordered to pay him MVR 6,200 within 15 days.
