Police have confiscated mobile phones belonging to three members of the Maldives United Opposition (MUO) – former Kendhoo MP Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, former State Minister for Gender Ministry Shidhaatha Shareef, and former Minister of Youth and Sports Hassan Latheef.

Speaking to reporters after being summoned to police headquarters on Saturday for questioning, Hassan Latheef said that personal mobile phones belonging to all three had been confiscated by police for their investigation.

Latheef said that he, Thasmeen and Shidhatha were being investigated under Article 533 of Penal Code – obstruction of rule of law and rule of state.

He said that all three opposition members were providing their full cooperation for the police investigation, and had given their statements.

The specifics of the charges against them are unclear at the moment.
