Although the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided that Sunday, 31 July, would be public holiday, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has said that banks and other financial institutes would be opened on Sunday.
The President’s Office issued a statement today saying that the President has declared that Sunday, 31st July 2016 is a public holiday, as an extension of the public holidays on the occasion of this year’s Independence Day.
However, a statement from MMA said that they would be opening on Sunday, along with the banks and the financial institutes regulated by them.
While the opening hours at MMA on Sunday has been set for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., letters, documents and other items would be accepted by MMA until 3 p.m.
A six days of public holidays were given this year from the Independence Day, 26 July.
