President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has made the decision to extend this year’s Independence Day holiday to include Sunday – July 31.
The decision was announced via a tweet sent out by the President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali this Thursday.

Muaz said that President Yameen made the decision to extend the holiday as a lot of school students and public employees were taking part in Independence Day festivities – which would be ending on July 30.

Public schools and offices are to re-open on August 1 – Monday – after the holiday.

The decision extends Independence Day holiday to six days.
