Academy of Dhivehi Language welcomes Dhivehi stickers on Viber

Academy of Dhivehi Language has warmly received the introduction of Dhivehi stickers on Viber – the most popular method of social media communication in the country – an initiative spearheaded by Ooredoo.

Speaking to “Sun” this Wednesday, President of Academy of Dhivehi Language, Ashraf Ali said that the Dhivehi stickers proved Dhivehi language, same as the English language – had adaptive capability of being used in modern communication technology, and thanked Ooredoo for their initiative.

“This is a new door through which the youth can communicate using “Thaana” letters. So I receive this with much happiness,” said Ashraf.

He said that he hoped for many such efforts to be initiated by other companies as well.

The stickers – released on July 26 on occasion of the country’s 51st Independence Day – are the first Dhivehi language stickers to be released on Viber.

The stickers can be downloaded for free, and contains many phrases and lingo used in daily conversation.

The phrases include:

• Baajjaveru Hendhuneh: Good morning

• Neihtha Coffee eh: No coffee?

• Habeys: Excellent/superb/cool

• Obinoave: Excellent/superb/cool

• Hingaa Bureh Jahaalan Dhaan: Lets go for a ride

Ooredoo said that the company planned on releasing more Dhivehi language stickers in the future – an initiative which has proven to be an instant hit – especially among the younger generation.
