MUO to financially compensate political prisoners

Maldives United Opposition (MUO) has decided to financially compensate the individuals that are arrested and injured in the protest demonstrations by the opposition.

Home Minister of the MUO Shadow Cabinet, Thasmeen Ali told Sun Media today that with the Detainee and Welfare fund established today, every person arrested in one of their political rally would receive MVR 1000 and those who are put in jail would receive MVR 5000.

Thasmeen said that those who are injured in such activities would also be compensated.

“Our purpose is to give everyone some financial aid, for assigning a lawyer and those who are admitted at the hospital.” Thasmeen said.

He said that assistance would be provided to those who are sentenced and imprisoned as well and assistance is being provided to those in prison in relation to the May-Day protest.
