Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that repair work on Majeedhi Magu would start in August, as government prepares to improve the quality of roads in the capital – Male’.
Muizzu said that expenditure for road development would be covered through state budget, and the Ministry had hired a Chinese consultant for the project.
“We are going to use asphalt for Boduthakurufaanu Magu, and we are going to widen it. We are trying to hire a contractor for the project as soon as possible,” said Muizzu.
Minister said that bricks would be used for the rest of the roads in Male’.
He said that the Ministry was currently engaged in conducting a survey, and the road development work would begin in August – the first road that will be repaired, being Majeedhi Magu.
“We are going to repair work one area at a time. So that it causes the least amount of strain on traffic. The old bricks will be taken out and leveled. The pavement will be renewed and the drains too,” said Muizzu.
He said that the government would also be addressing the lack of parking space by installing a parking system.
