Minister: Bridge will solve congestion in Male’

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge between Male’ and Hulhule’ would provide a solution to the problem of congestion in Male’.

Speaking during the ceremony held on Thursday afternoon at Champa Central Hotel to unveil the housing chapter of the consensus, Muizzu said that the bridge linking Male’ and Hulhule’ was a pathway being built towards the development of the country, and that it would provide a solution to congestion in Male’.

Muizzu said that the government envisioned shifting the people living in Male’ and the atolls to Hulhumale’, and that President Abdulla Yameen gave great importance to improving the quality of the lives of people living in Male’.

“Male’ and Hulhumale’ being connected with lead to development of Hulhumale’, with citizens earning true benefits as parties that haven purchased land in Hulhumale’ develop their businesses and create employment opportunities,” said Muizzu.

Hulhumale’ is an artificial island extending from Hulhule’ – one of the biggest infrastructure development projects undertaken in the country.

Muizzu has said that the government was running housing and infrastructure development projects in both Male’ and the atolls.

He said in an earlier interview with “Sun” that government was, in fact, running more development projects in the atolls than in Male’ – noting recently completed land reclamation projects in G. Dh. Thinadhoo and S. Feydhoo, and the current land reclamation projects in Th. Guraidhoo and M. Muli as well, as the housing projects being run in the atolls – including Addu City and Fuvahmulah, and road development projects in 20 islands and harbor construction projects in 50.
