Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the government was running more infrastructure development projects in the atolls than in the capital city – Male’.
Muizzu made the statement in response to a question posed by “Sun” regarding accusations the government was disproportionately focusing resources towards development projects in Male’.
He said that there were plenty of major infrastructure development projects being run in the atolls as well.
Muizzu said that land reclamation projects had recently been completed in G. Dh. Thinadhoo and S. Feydhoo, and noted that similar land reclamation projects were being run in Th. Guraidhoo and M. Muli as well, at the moment.
He said that road development projects were being run in 20 islands in the atolls, harbor construction projects in 50, and housing projects in multiple islands – including Addu City and Fuvahmulah.
“Much more housing and infrastructure development projects are being run in full-speed in the atolls than in Male’,” said Muizzu.
Infrastructure developmental projects are being run simultaneously in Male’ as well – the largest projects in progress being the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge between Male’ and Hulhule’, and the Industrial Zone being built on reclaimed land.
