Maldives United Opposition (MUO) has decided to establish a hotline to provide legal counsel to law enforcement officers through the instant messaging mobile application, WhatsApp.
Speaking at an MUO press conference today, the Vice President of Adhaalath Party, Ali Zahir said that the MUO shadow cabinet has decided to find and employment to all Police Officers that get dismissed and lose their jobs for not obeying “illegal” orders from the higher ups.
Ali Zahir said that security officers seek legal counsel on legal matters and in an effort to find a solution to it by the MUO, they would be establishing a hotline very soon through WhatsApp to provide counsel.
The Adhaalath Party Vice President said that information about the law would be provided to all those who call that number.
The WhatsApp messenger run by Facebook also carries a calling option that does not go through a third party. It is an end-to-end encrypted application.
The Vice President of Adhaalath Party, Zahir said that the legal counselors on the MUO hotline would provide information on what an illegal order is, why it is illegal and the who and how to take responsibility for it.
He said that the establishment of the hotline would allow the public to gain information on the law.
