Two arrested in suspicion of large scale drug dealing in Thaa Atoll

Two people have been arrested in suspicion of being involved in a large scale drug trade in Thaa Atoll.

Maldives Police Service said that they arrested two people in coordination with Thaa Atoll Police and the Police Intelligence on Monday night following a report of a large drug shipment going to Thaa Atoll from Malé via a boat.

Police said that they arrested two local men of the ages 28 and 36 years of age.

The 36-year-old man was arrested when the boat carrying the drugs docked at Thaa. Madifushi. And the 28-year-old was arrested in an operation last night with a court order in his residence at Thaa. Kinbidhoo.

In the search of the boat, Police found suspected drugs sealed in two plastic bags and hidden in two flour and rice containers in the kitchen of the boat. At the initial weighing, one bag had 105 grams of drugs and the other had 15 grams.

Police said that Thaa. Veymandoo Police Station is investigating the large scaled drug trade in the atoll.

The two arrested have been remanded by 15 days by the Thaa. Dhiyamigili Magistrate Court.
