National Meteorological Center has reported that large waves forming in the Huvadhoo Ocean this Tuesday was resulting in flooding in some islands.
“Sun” has received reports of flooding in G. Dh. Gaddhoo and G. Dh. Vaadhoo.
President of Vaadhoo Council, Ahmed Abdul Kareem reported that flood water reached 150 feet into the island during high tide on Tuesday.
He reported flooding on the streets, but did not report flood water entering any houses in the island.

“Vaadhoo isn’t usually affected by flooding, even during flood season. But there’s flooding today. We have set up a special taskforce to prepare for possible flooding during high tide tonight,” said Ahmed Abdul Kareem.
Meanwhile, President of Gaddhoo Council, Mohamed Shujau also reported flooding in that island as well.
Shujau said that the island was experiencing flooding the likes of which it had never experienced before.
He said that flood water had affected 2,000 meters of the inhabited area of Gaddhoo, entering inside houses as well.

“We are now working on placing sand sacks with the help of people working in the China flats and MTCC. Gaddhoo has not experienced flooding like this before,” said Shujau.
Meteorological Center said that flooding was usual during Hulhangu Monsoon, and that the flooding in islands belonging to G. Dh. Atoll on Tuesday was due to large waves forming in Huvadhu Ocean.
