People’s Majlis, Public Finance Committee has provided their backing to increase health insurance packages of state ministers, judges, lawmakers and heads of state institutions.
Public Finance Committee provided their backing after the matter was called to vote during the committee meeting held last Monday.
Changes have been for both the insurance package and the premium.
Lawmakers debated of the Public Finance Committee report supporting increasing the insurance during the People’s Majlis session held on Tuesday.
Voting has been scheduled for 1:30 pm, when the session resumes after the break.
Changes to premium amount:
• Health insurance premium for President, Vice President, Supreme Court judges and lawmakers increased from MVR 12,500 t0 MVR 24,000.
• Health insurance premium for state ministers increased from MVR 12,000 to MVR 19,000.
• Health insurance premium for High Court judges changed from MVR 7,000 to MVR 14,500.
• Health insurance premium for judges of superior courts changed from MVR 7,000 to 12,000.
• Health insurance premium for magistrates changed from MVR 7,000 to MVR 9,000.
• Health insurance premium for members of independent organizations and commissions changed from MVR 10,000 to MVR 14,000.
Changes to insurance package:
• Health insurance package for President, Vice President, Supreme Court judges and lawmakers increased from MVR 300,000 to MVR 350,000.
• Health insurance package for state ministers increased from MVR 300,000 to MVR 350,000.
• Health insurance package for High Court judges increased from MVR 200,000 to MVR 300,000.
• Health insurance package for judges of superior courts increased from MVR 200,000 to MVR 300,000.
• Health insurance package for magistrates increased from MVR 200,000 to MVR 250,000.
• Health insurance package for members of independent organizations and commissions increased from MVR 250,000 to MVR 300,000.
The decision to increase insurance was made after Allied Insurance said that they can no longer provide coverage for the current payment being provided by the government.
The senior state officials can receive medical treatment from India, Sri Lanka or any ASEAN country with the insurance package.
