Passengers on sunken launch rescued on uninhabited island

Four people who were on a sunken launch have been rescued after they made it on an uninhabited island.

Police said that they rescued three locals and a Bangladeshi national from the uninhabited island of Kekuraalhuveli in Meemu atoll after the launch they were on sank near the island while fishing.

They were rescued by the officers of the M. Kolhufushi Police Station.

The incident was reported at 1:30 p.m. today and all four on board sustained various injuries. A local and the Bangladeshi national serving as crew on the launch are currently being treated at the Muli Regional Hospital.

Police said that the investigation so far points to the launch being pushed on the Kekuraalhuveli reef with a wave.
