Commander of Central Police Division, Chief Inspector of Police Hassan Shifau reported on Monday that the temperature of ground inside the entrance of Sosunge in M. Mulah has gone down after authorities resolved all of the house’s electricity issues.
Shifau spoke to “Sun” and said that police worked with Fenaka Corporation officials on Sunday night to replace the earth rod and wires used to provide electricity to the house, and that all of its electricity issues had now been resolved.
He said that the temperature had dropped from 62 Degree Celsius to 33 – 35 Degree Celsius.
“We are monitoring the temperature on an hourly basis. Sometimes it goes up. Plus, minus. Temperature was significantly low last we checked,” said Shifau.
He said that they cannot determine for sure if the drop in temperature was due to changes brought to electricity.
Shifau said that they had still not been able to identify the reason for the ground heating up, but it was most likely to the old earth rod buried in the ground – as the ground had been heating up from where it had been buried.
Environmental expert, Dr. Mohamed Ali has said that the Maldivian region did not have any volcanoes, and it was therefore unlikely the heat and smoke was due to any volcanic activity or release of any natural gas.
He said that it was most likely a result of human error.
